Keeping handmade pieces beautiful
A few minutes of care keeps a handmade piece looking new for years.
Cleaning
Spot clean with cool water and a drop of mild soap on a soft cloth. Blot, never rub. For a full wash, hand wash cool, press water out gently and never wring.
Drying
Dry flat on a towel, reshaping while damp. Hanging stretches stitches out of shape. Keep away from direct sunlight, which fades dyed yarn.
Storing
Store loosely stuffed with tissue so the piece holds its silhouette. Keep in a cotton dust bag rather than plastic so the fibres can breathe.
Metallic and zari trims
Keep gold trims away from perfume and moisture. Wipe with a dry soft cloth only.
Snags and pulls
Never cut a pulled loop. Ease it back through with a blunt needle or crochet hook, or send us a photo and we'll advise.
Long-term
Air the piece a couple of times a year and rotate use. Well-cared-for handwork outlives almost anything mass produced.
